How to Combat Jetlag

Millions of people suffer everyday from jetlag. It is estimated that it takes your body one whole day for every hour of time zone you cross to adjust. if you fly from coast to coast that means it may take you three days to adjust. More than likely, by that time, you will be getting ready to go home. This means you will have to go through the whole adjustment period all over again.

There are some quick tips for dealing with jetlag. You do not need to have a doctor prescribe you medications to conquer this issue. Even though this is a rather annoying, uncomfortable feeling, you can diminish the effects all naturally. Some tips for jetlag prevention:

*Use Melatonin. Taking 1-3 mg of melatonin 30 minutes prior to bedtime will help reset your clock much faster. Sublingual (under the tongue) tablets appear to work better than tablets and capsules. Your dose can vary depending on your specific needs. Melatonin use should start 3-5 days prior to your trip and continue for the same number of days upon your return.

*Change your schedule prior to leaving. Go to bed later and wake up later prior to heading West and reverse the process for heading East. Again, coast to coast will cause jetlag in most people.

*Avoid caffeine. This might be a quick fix but it will backfire in the long run. What this means is that you should consider carefully if this is the avenue you wish to take. If caffeine is a part of your daily staple, doing without will only cause other issues once you take care of the jetlag.

*Get moving. Make sure you get some physical activity the first day or two of travel. this may be all you need to avoid a problem with jetlag.

While these are just some quick tips to prevent jetlag, should you become afflicted, there are some very easy all natural remedies to help you. Contact your local health store for the best option for you.
